Tourist Day is a social inclusion project by the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Tourism Department based on offering quality tours to low-income populations as well as public servants.
Maracanã, Pequena África, Aqua Rio, BioParque, Museu do Amanhã – among other venues – are part of the list of places offered.
The idea is to make Rio de Janeiro residents feel impacted by a real, guided visit, full of historical, cultural and geographical information about the places visited.
During the tours, the following are offered: transportation, MTur-accredited tour guides, support staff, snack kits and free tickets, if the place visited is private and has a partnership with the project.
The person responsible for the tour chooses the best segment for the group, and can direct them to areas such as culture, history, nature, religion, etc.
The importance of social tourism for Rio is to make residents feel a sense of belonging to the city. This democratizes access to information and helps to enhance the value of historical, cultural, environmental and scenic heritage.
Tourism is an important factor in economic and social development, generating employment, income and revenue. In this sense, the “Tourist Day” project is an action that captivates the public, strengthening the identity of all Cariocas and, at the same time, raising awareness of the importance of welcoming our tourists.
